Post 2 - Bar Harbor to NYC

It was all we could do to not take the bike out on our rest day in Bar Harbor to ride the many carriage paths that we often do whenever we come to Acadia National Park.  But, that was the right thing to do and our legs felt rested and ready to climb out of the hole in Bar Harbor which was at sea level up to Ellsworth and beyond for that day. We stopped and visited the observatory at the top of the bridge tower for the Penobscot Narrows Bridge.  The bridge observatory, which offers 360 degree views from the top, is 420 ft high which makes it the tallest bridge observatory in the world. It was a great visit, which also  included Fort Knox (the other Fort Knox, not the gold Fort Knox).  This fort used new technology for cannon placement that allowed for cannons to be shot from within the walls, and it's the best preserved fort site in New England. Post 1 - Home to Bar Harbor

Thank you for joining us on our bike tour of the East Coast Greenway (ECG) that stretches from northern Maine at the Canadian border in Calais all the way down to the southern most point in Key West Florida. Our hotel stays have been booked for the entire trip.  We will be taking a rest day approximately every 10th day and we plan to update the blog for the previous days' rides.  We will send out an email notifying you when new blog updates have been posted. To get to our start heading south on the ECG, we drove 2 days from Roswell, Georgia north to Ellsworth Maine, unpacked the bike after dropping off the car at Bar Harbor Airport, and rode 8 miles to our hotel in Ellsworth, Maine. Because there was no rental car return near the Calais, Maine, we had to ride two days to get to the start of the ECG.  The two days riding to the start and the 3 days riding the ECG to Bar Harbor for a rest day were hilly, but beautiful.  We passed by many wild blueberry fields which are...
