Post 1 - Home to Bar Harbor

Thank you for joining us on our bike tour of the East Coast Greenway (ECG) that stretches from northern Maine at the Canadian border in Calais all the way down to the southern most point in Key West Florida.

Our hotel stays have been booked for the entire trip.  We will be taking a rest day approximately every 10th day and we plan to update the blog for the previous days' rides.  We will send out an email notifying you when new blog updates have been posted.

To get to our start heading south on the ECG, we drove 2 days from Roswell, Georgia north to Ellsworth Maine, unpacked the bike after dropping off the car at Bar Harbor Airport, and rode 8 miles to our hotel in Ellsworth, Maine.

Because there was no rental car return near the Calais, Maine, we had to ride two days to get to the start of the ECG.  The two days riding to the start and the 3 days riding the ECG to Bar Harbor for a rest day were hilly, but beautiful.  We passed by many wild blueberry fields which are called barrons that were created by the glaciers long ago.  We have often enjoyed Maine wild blueberries but never saw first-hand where they grew.

On our rest day we visited Acadia National Park and enjoyed a nice walk on the carriage paths.

Note:  Some versions of Android O/S will not properly display the 360° picture links that we are posting but they should be viewable on Apple phones and Windows or Apple PC.

Repurposing old unusable propane tanks is a big thing up here.

Lobsta!

The Bar Harbor Motel had towel art shaped like lobsters on the bed, much like they do on cruise ships.
